The Paris of Modigliani and his contemporaries explore the work of the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) while delevering into his links with other artists of the time, among whom are those belonging to the so-called School of Paris and some of the most famous exponents of Mexican art of the first half of the 20th century, such as Diego Rivera, Angel Zárraga and Carlos Mérida, among others. The selection consists of 143 paintings, 11 drawings, four books, two masks and four photographic reproductions. The pieces come from four international instances, mostly from the Jonas Netter (France 1867 - 1946) art collection, as well as from 14 Mexican private collections. With El París de Modigliani y sus contemporáneosʺ, the Museum of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Institute Restellini and the Jonas Netter collection, underlines the remarkable links and influences that occurred among the artistic community of the emblematic Paris district. It is important to mention that Jonas Netter was a key figure in the formation of the artistic collection that brings together works by many of Montparnasseœs most important creators. On the other hand, the collaboration of the Restellini Institute includes the participation in this project of Marc Restellini, the most outstanding specialist of Modigliani's work in the world. "The exhibition is enriched by works by some Mexican artists who lived in Montparnasse and developed a friendship with Modigliani. The names Diego Rivera and Angel Zárraga are known in France (...) Works by Alfredo Ramos Martínez were also integrated, who after his stay in Paris founded the Escuelas de Pintura al Aire Libre (Schools of Outdoor Painting, EPAL) (...) They are added to the presence of Benjamin Coria, little known but who met Modigliani. It is these artists who constitute the Mexican contribution to the exhibition, research led by the Mexican writer and curator Jaime Moreno Villarreal, accompanied by the essays of Serge Fauchereau, Sylvia Navarrete, Luis Ruis Caso and Sandra Zetina."
