Mr. Murchison describes his entrance into his family's business and its evolution under his leadership, growing from a small enterprise to a diversified conglomerate, involved in shipping, container technology, and port operation. He discusses the positive and negative aspects of family businesses and the unique qualities a corporation needs to survive in the volatile Argentine market. He covers the numerous tactics employed by Murchison to deal with government policies and the internationalization of Argentina's ports and shipping industry. Mr. Murchison also relates his involvement with the IDEA business association and the integral role he played in the development of San Andres University.

Guillermo Murchison was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1941. He received a bachelor of commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal in 1963, and later studied at Canada's School of Certified Public Accountants. He returned to Argentina in 1967 and went into the Murchison family business. Founded in 1897, Murchison is an Argentine company that is dedicated to providing port services and warehousing in Argentina and Uruguay. With more than 40 years in the business, Mr. Murchison has built several shipping and port service companies in Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Brazil. He is responsible for the introduction and advancement of container standardization in South America. He has served on the board of several domestic and foreign companies and has been involved in various business associations. He is also actively engaged in a number of non-profit organizations. He was a co-founder of Universidad de San Andrés and has served as president of the university board.
