Lady Caroline is tasked to deliver an important message to London by her father, a master of espionage, but she is immediately beset with trouble on the way. Her coachman is killed and she is left for dead only to be rescued by the new Earl of Davenport, who has inherited a bankrupt estate from his dissolute brother.
