In the 1950s Fred Thieler (1916-1999), who had initially painted representational figurative portraits and landscapes, made a radical break with his previous style. From that point onwards he experimented with gestural dynamic worlds of colour that identify him as one of the main representatives of German Art Informel. The catalogue traces the consistent development of his oeuvre. It ranges from his works on paper and graphic art to the large-format canvases, and honours the artist's life work in a substantive manner.
