Beginning in 1947, Hector Lee came from University of Utah to Chico State to teach summer class in Western American folklore; students collected, classified and analyzed material gathered from region around Chico State College.
Volumes contain the typewritten and manuscript reports of students; each volume collects reports of that year's class.
Reports cover a wide variety of subjects (not just folklore); history and descriptions of settlements and dwellings, local history, biographical information about people living in the area; local legends and other traditional folklore; Indian history; customs and social life, costumes, outlaws, ethnic populations, songs, tales, ghost stories, recipes, local industries (such as almond orchards), medical remedies, landmarks, occupations (mining, railroad, stagecoach), place names, tales of pioneers, etc.
Includes indexes.
