Front cover and flyleaf detached from spine binding. Front pastedown includes donors' ex libris (bookplate) of the Boston Public Library identifying copy as a gift of Joshua Bates. Printed on antique laid papers featuring horizontal chainlines, vertical wire lines, and watermark visible at spine-edge near head of page. Edges of pages marbled. Title page includes two autographs in black ink script. Recto of title page includes annotation in pencil script noting provenance and date of receipt (September 15, 1859). Copy includes marginalia in Latin throughout. Leaf M4 includes Latin-language poem and illustration entered in (faded to brown) ink script. Pages are hand-numbered in pencil at head-/fore-edge.
