Edition Notes

"The form of the imprint suggests that this edition may have been originally printed for private use. Subsequent copies were included in the collection of J. Mayne's Two Plays, 1658 ... but whether it was inserted in all copies is uncertain. If it was, some copies have since lost it."--Greg.

Place of publication from Wing.

Cataloged 2015 jmoschella

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy halfbound in red morocco and marbled papers. The armorial bookplate of the Barton Library is present on the front pastedown. Tipped-onto the verso of the front free endpaper is an auctioneer's description from the Halliwell sale of May, 1857, with an inscription in Barton's hand. The words "by Mayne" are inscribed on the title page in an early hand. This copy has been trimmed heavily, with resulting losses to signatures and catchwords. Both of the blank leaves (A1 and L4) are wanting.
