Vol. 1, no. 1-6; v. 2, no. 1. Semimonthly, 15 Feb.-31 Mar. 1800; irregular, 30 Apr.-30 Aug. 1800.
Essays denouncing the new American republic, its founders and its government. Issue no. 6 ends with a letter addressed "To the people of the United States of America," signed: William Cobbett, and dated at end: London, August 30, 1800.
Evans 37198 (No. 1-5, with note that no. 6-7 were probably printed in England)
No. 1-2 have cover title with contents and imprint (in no. 1, New Yokk [sic] the remainder caption title only.
No. 7 (v. 2, no. 1, undated) has title: The Republican Rush-Light.
According to L. H. Butterfield, ed., Letters of Benjamin Rush, p. 1217n, no. 6 was printed in London and no. 7 is "a lame imitation of Cobbett from the opposite political camp ... published in the United States after the election of 1800."
