Increase S. Smith writes that "abolition is as yet dead here," in spite of Mr. Wise's interesting, though sparsely attended, lectures. The County [Anti-Slavery] Society will meet here. Increase S. Smith says: "Do prevail on Mr. Garrison to come if you should see him. I believe people will go to hear him and it may be, he will produce some effect." He refers to trouble in the Unitarian camp. He discusses an address by Mr. E. [Emerson?] and a sermon by Mr. W. [Wise?]. Increase S. Smith comments: "We are soaring here once a week in the seventh heaven of trancendentalism with Mr. Alcott."
