Edition Notes
Part of the Samuel J. May anti-slavery collection donated to Cornell University Library.
Caption title.
Dated from references in text. Includes a quote (p. 15) from "On the waste and misapplication of mind," an article appearing in the American Quarterly Register IV, no. 3 (Feb. 1832). The discussion of emancipation in the text suggests a date prior to emancipation in the British West Indies (August 1, 1834). The American Antiquarian Society copy includes a ms. inscription dated 1834.
"This pamphlet is printed on linen paper, as the publisher cannot conscientiously use paper made, wholly or in part, of cotton rags--the product of slave labor. ..."--foot of p. 16.
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy (copy 1) has preliminary page (removed and enclosed in mylar) of formerly bound volume with inscription "Joshua Coffin's Book, Newbury, Mass.", and a ms. table of contents.
