An edition of Retired Terrorist (2009)

Retired Terrorist

An autobiography: a few years after WWII ends, a young Scottish political activist becomes a friend of a Scottish National Party executive who arranges for him to be involved in a raid on an Army Cadets' armoury. When other raiders are being sought by Scottish police he becomes an exile in Occupied Germany. There the US Army employs him and he is able to emigrate to California, taking up educational opportunities there, while maintaining an interest in promoting the independence movement in Scotland. He even returnsto Scotland briefly - as an American tourist! - to attempt to recover the 'Stone of Destiny'). Later, he finds that 'organized nationalists' are too busy to be interested in the history represented and he writes nostalgically from his retreat in NZ.
