In the summers of 1998 and 1999, Villa Medici welcomed the first and second editions of a triennial cycle of exhibitions dedicated to contemporary art: "La Ville, le Jardin, la Mémoire". For "Le Jardin", more than thirty international artists, as well as the artists in residence at Villa Medici, have created an itinerary of works in the Renaissance gardens of the Villa, in the Roman cistern, and other spaces within the gardens, including installations, photographs, sculptures, paintings, sound works, and events.
