Edition Notes

Author supplied by H&L and ESTC; play is in five acts, in prose and verse; B.L. has note: 'Altered from the French of J. F. de la Harpe'; NUC describes it as being 'adapted' from the same source; DNB states: 'The whole play, which is said to have been taken without any acknowledgment from the French of La Harpe, was printed in 1766 and 1767'.

'Advertisement to the Public', followed by 'Errata' note on verso of title-page; 'Prologue, written by George Colman, Esq' followed by 'Dramatis Personae' precede the text; 'Epilogue, written by David Garrick, Esq.' follows it.
