A validation of the Reactive Acid Tailings Assessment Program for Base Metal Tailings model was provided. The concepts upon which the model was based were discussed, and comparisons were made between it and other acid mine drainage modelling approaches. The many processes that the model considers, such as oxygen pore-gas diffusivity, temperature variation with depth, and porewater transport of metals, were also presented.
