"Considerada la mejor de las novelas de Gardea. Es una mezcla de fantasía y realidad del pueblo de Placeres. El místico y loco tío Cándido habla con los ángeles y los santos. Cándido muere y visita a su sobrino, Isidro Paniagua, que enloquece también. El hijo de Isidro, Jeremías, crece en un mundo realmaravilloso (o magicorealista) de milagros y conversaciones con Cándido. Este quiere estar en un tornavoz (el interior de la cúpula de la iglesia del pueblo), donde pueda dialogar a gusto con todos los santos del lugar.
