Some wood-engraved plates are signed as engraved by "S. Williams". One is signed "O. Jewitt Sc.". All include title captions.
Wood-engraved illustrations within the text are unsigned.
Plates and illustrations are the same as those used in the "Second edition" of this title published in 1840 by John Murray. See McLean D 0604.
Publisher's advertisements on p. [1], [1]-8, [1]-4 and [1]-7 at end include colophon with printer's imprint: "London: Bradbury and Evans, Printers, Whitefriars.". Advertisements include one for the publisher "John Van Voorst, 1, Paternoster Row.".
MASS copy: Bound in green vertical rib-grain cloth blocked in gold and blind in the same design as McLean D 0604. With pale pastel yellow glazed endpapers. With binder's ticket: "Bound by Remnant & Edmonds". With ownership inscription: "Catherine Newton Aug 1. 1843.".
