L’auteur retrace les péripéties de la négation philosophique, esthétique et littéraire de l’ordre social existant dans les Œuvres de Mallarmé, Valéry, Adorno et Lyotard : la critique sous-jacente au « beau négatif » de Mallarmé et Valéry, la politisation de cette critique par Adorno et la radicalisation de l’esthétique adornienne par Lyotard. Ces auteurs s’orientent vers trois concepts fondamentaux : le sujet individuel, le beau et le sublime, qui constituent ainsi le cadre dans lequel évolue le discours de cet ouvrage.
