Edition Notes

G3 missigned 'G2'; L2 missigned 'L3'.

'The Dedication' signed: 'Jacob Curate' [i.e. Gilbert Crokatt]; author supplied by H&L and ESTC; B.L. enters under 'Jacob Curate, pseud. [i.e. Gilbert and John Monroe]'; NUC enters under Crokatt, with reference from Curate.

The DNB entry on Robert Calder, clergyman of the Scottish episcopalian church, states that 'he was the reputed author of 'Scottish Presbyterian Eloquence display'd', 1693, a collection of citations intended to expose the irreverent liberties indulged in by the presbyterians in their prayers and sermons' [1693 is the date of the second edition]

First edition, 1692, has title: 'The Scotch Presbyterian Eloquence or, the foolishness of their teaching discover'd ...'; H&L states of this edition that it 'has often been wrongly attributed to Robert Calder, who may have edited some of the reprints'.

ESTC5064C1 [under Curate pseud. [i.e. Gilbert Crokatt and John Monroe].
