Signed: 'Philo-Criticus. London Mar. 28. 1713'; 'Errata' note at end of text. Authors supplied by H&L; the DNB notes that 'Hare was a prolific author. He had been an old friend of Bentley, to whom he addressed in 1713 'The Clergyman's Thanks to Phileleutherus (Bentley's pseudonym in the controversy with Anthony Collins)'; the entry for Anthony Collins records, of his 'Discourse of Free-Thinking', published in 1713: 'The book urges that all belief should be based upon free inquiry, and insinuates that suchinquiry will be destructive of orthodox views. The book produced a vigorous reply from Bentley, 'Remarks ... by Phileleutherus Lipsiensis.'.
