Modern art.

A series of line engravings from the works of distinguished painters of the English and foreign schools selected from galleries and private collections in Great Britain.

Modern Art by James Dafforne. A magnificent book of line engravings with a title page with twelve lines three of which are in red. The first line MODERN ART in red, the second line in black A SERIES OF LINE ENGRAVINGS, the third line in black FROM THE WORKS OF and the fourth line in red DISTINGUISHED PAINTINGS OF THE ENGLISH & FOREIGN SCHOOLS, the fifth line in black SELECTED FROM, the sixth line in italics
Galleries and Private Collections in Great Britain, the seventh line WITH DESCRIPTIVE TEXT, the eighth line BY JAMES DAFFORNE
the ninth line SECOND SERIES, the tenth line LONDON, the eleventh line in red VIRTUE & CO LIMITED, 294 CITY ROAD and the final line in brackets All Rights Reserved. The fifty or so painters represented include W. Holman Hunt, J.D. Watson, Rosa Bonheur, Vicat Cole, F. Goodall, Sir E. Landseer, E.M. Ward, P.F. Poole, and W. Q. Orchardson. The work includes some 25 engravers. The book I have is in fair condition as most of the binding has given way but the engravings are in good condition and as far as I can see none are missing. Submitted by Paul Harris Jones. My Email address is mrjones@uniserve.com. 28 November 2010.
