Edition Notes
An attack on David Mallet, editor of the corrected edition (1749) of Bolingbroke's 'Patriot king' and author of the advertisement disparaging the memory of Pope for secretly printing 1500 copies of the 'Patriot king' in 1738. Bolingbroke replied in a 'Familiar epistle to the most impudent man living' [Warburton] A final anonymous retort was made in 'A letter to the Lord Viscount Bolingbroke, occasioned by his treatment of a deceased friend.' cf. Dictionary of national biography.
