In 1939, when she was eleven years old, Pamela La Fane began to experience pain in her legs, then her wrists started to swell. Rheumatoid Arthritis quickly turned her body rigid - she could not even move from lying to sitting without assistance. Pamela was hospitalized for the next thirty years, being moved at the age of sixteen from a children's hospital in Oxfordshire to a London geriatric hospital. Here she was kept bed-ridden for many years, often ignored by overworked nurses. Pamela tells her story with humour and with a wonderful insight into the people around her.
