The CrossB cattle farm on the turbulent Texas border of the 1860's is flankt by two others which are desperate to claim the CrossB by don't let the cattles pass. This dilemma should be solved by Cole Barrett the lead character.

Cole Barrett is THE archetype of a cowboy. He acts considered, is shut and can shoot faster than his shadow. The book itself is quite short (127p.) but climax in a statisfying two man sabre duel, although it leaves some strings open.

Excerpts

That was Cole Barrett's welcome home to Shadow Valley. He didn't expect a hero's welcome in Texas for he had fought on the Union side, but the cold enmity of his sister Martha was a shock.

Then his father, old and broken, whispered, "You're though inside, Cole-thougher than the rest of us, I know you'll fight."

Fight he did, for the Barretts were hemmed in by houghty Spanish landowners one one side and the crooked Gillis gang on the other.

Cole knew he'd have to fight every step of the way to drive his cattle to market...
