Hamlet Bareh

3rd.May.1931 -

Although Dr.Hamlet B.Ngap Kynta has been attempting to present a Church History, he has to his credit a number of works of a comprehensive nature which focus on the varied themes relating to the civic, socio-educational and economic development as well as of the literature and the arts of Meghalaya.

He served earlier as Publicity Officer, Union Christian College, Umiam, then lecturer of history in St.Edmund's College and after sometime, Editor of District Gazetteers in Nagaland. From 1985 he was Professor and Head of Centre for Creative Arts in North Eastern Hill University, Shillong.

He was the recipient of the National Fellowship on the subject of 'Statesmanship' and the Emeritus Fellowship from the University Grant Commission in 1998-2000 on the subject of the "Economy in Meghalaya"

He was recipient of the State Award on the Meghalaya Day 21st January, 2004 in respect of his contribution in the field of Arts and Literature.

He was recepient of Padmashree in respect of his service in the field of of Literature and Education from the President of India on 30th June,2004.

He carried out several seminars and integrated school workshop which focus on the objective and realistic methods of teaching, enrichment of the healthy classroom activities, motivating students for right approach to study and elucidating the varied facets of economy and social reconstruction.

Member of several National councils and bodies, delivered lectures on various themes at public platforms. First ever first Khasi Film maker film titled. ' Ka Synjuk Ri Ki Laiphew Syiem': built and set up The Tirot Singh Memorial in Shillong city, also Prominent Historian of the North East.
