Gherasim Luca was a Romanian Jewish avant-garde poet. In the '30s he's been a member of the group around the Alge ("Seaweed") magazine. In 1940 he founded with Paul Păun (another former member of the Alge group), Gellu Naum, Virgil Teodorescu and Dolfi Trost the Romanian surrealist group. In 1948, with the arrival of communism, the group is censored. Afterwards, Gherasim Luca went to Paris.
