Edwin Alfonso-Sosa is the Director/Founder of Ocean Physics Education since 2004. The non-profit company mission is to educate the people of Puerto Rico on the physical aspects of our ocean environment. Edwin’s primary goal is to share information about ocean’s physical phenomena around our archipelago and the eastern Caribbean. He maintains a web portal and Facebook page to disseminate current oceanographic information. He is a graduate from University of Puerto Rico’s Marine Science Department where he focused on the impact of internal tides on the ocean’s primary productivity. In 2002 during his post-doctorate at the Naval Research Laboratory, he developed a new method (HEOF) to analyze the nonlinear internal tide currents measured by Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP). Edwin’s research interest is the development of seichelogia. A novel approach to remote sense the deep ocean waters based primarily on coastal water level signal analysis.
