Betty Levie, sister to Louise B. Nolen, was born in Eustis Florida and grew up in a small, rural Alabama town during the Depression years.
At the age of 5 she moved to Clay County where she lived for the rest of her life. Mrs. Levie was an educator in the Clay County school system for over 40 years; to her, teaching was pure joy and she truly enjoyed working with her students. Mrs. Levie received her bachelors degree in biology and her masters degree in elementary education from Jacksonville State University and was certified as a reading specialist by Auburn University. During her educational career, she taught grades 1-12 throughout the Clay County School system and also taught at Southern Union State Junior College and Jacksonville State University. Mrs. Levie also served as vice-principal at Ashland Elementary School and principal at Ashland Middle School. As a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland, she was a long-time Sunday School teacher and especially enjoying singing in the choir. Actually, Mrs. Betty enjoyed singing anywhere and everywhere. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
