Mario Ruiz Morales was born in Moraleda de Zafayona, province of Granada, Spain, on March 7, 1946. He is a Surveyor, Engineer in Geodesy and Cartography, Licentiate and Doctor in Exact Sciences, and Geographical Engineer. He is the author of many books and articles about Mathematical Geography, his main line of research.
