Theodorus Gaza

[English] Theodoros Gazis (or Gazes) (* about 1410 in Thessaloniki; † about 1475 in San Giovanni a Piro in Kampanien), also called Theodorus Gaza, was a Greek emigrant, humanist, translator of Aristotle, Theophrast, Aelian, Dionysios of Halikarnassos, Chrysostomos, and other authors, and one of the revivalists of Greek literature in Italy during the Palaeologan Renaissance (15th century). His epithet was “Thessalonicensis” (in Latin) and “Thessalonikeus” (in Greek).
