Hysen Voci was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1933, but later on his family moved to Tirana, Albania .
He studied at Faculty of Natural Science (U of Tirana, Albania) and later worked there at
the Botanical Garden.
For a very long time he has worked (“hobby”) in the field of translating from Italian and Turkish into Albanian.
His early translation were published at “Revista Horizonti”, but his most well known work was the
Italian – Albanian dictionary published in 1979, which was printed and distributed also in Italy for
the Arberesh community living mostly in southern parts of Italy.
Also of a great success in Albania, Kosova and Macedonia were his dictionaries Albanian – Turkish and Turkish – Albanian, and the workbooks in Turkish language.
Not too long ago publishing house “Scanderbeg” has published his latest translation of “The house of silence” of a Nobel Prize winner, Orhan Pamuk.
Hysen now lives in Canada were he continues to contribute in the field of translations.
