Charles King

According to the wikipedia entry, General King was the great-grandson of a signer of the Constitution, Rufus King, and the son of Civil War General [likewise named] Rufus King. Charles King was born on October 12, 1844 in Albany, NY. He attended West Point during the Civil War years graduating in 1866. He was seriously wounded in the subsequent Indian Wars which forced his retirement from active duty. He then relocated to Wisconsin and served in that state's National Guard for many years and there he began his writing career. During the Spanish-American War, King led a group of volunteers to the Phillipines and later helped to train soldiers for the First World War. A close friend of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, King wrote several silent movie scripts for the famous western showman. For many years, King and his wife lived at the Carlton Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and he would eventually write or edit over 60 books and novels. He was buried in Milwaukee's Forest Home Cemetary following his death on March 17, 1933.
