From the Obit in Reactive Polymers, vol.8p1(1988) part 1:
With the death of Gerhard Klein on September 13, 1987, the ion exchange community has lost a sound and profound thinker, a great scientist and man. Although he never stepped into the limelight, he was one of the most constructive and innovative contributors to central areas in theory and practice of ion exchange and fixed-bed adsorption. He will be missed.
Gerhard Klein was born on September 17, 1918, in Vienna to a family prominent in the arts. His father, Walter Klein, was a noted musician and composer; his mother, a painter whose work is still valued.
