An educator, psychologist, and author, Edward C. Glanz graduated from Bates College magna cum laude, and he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Sigma Rho, and College Club. He served in World War II as a pilot of B-24s and B-25s for the Army’s Air Transport Command.
Having earned master’s and Ed.D degrees from Columbia University, Edward Glanz was appointed assistant professor and director of student personnel at Quinnipiac College in New Haven, Connecticut. He was also a research fellow in clinical psychology at Yale. In 1953 he became professor and chairman of the division of psychology and guidance at Boston University, where he was involved in teaching, counseling, and administration.
A decade later at Southampton College of Long Island University, he served first as founding provost (1963), then as the first president from 1969 to 1972, when he returned to teaching there and at C.W Post College. Among his professional publications were five books in psychology and guidance, and articles in the Journal of Applied Psychology.
Born in Georgetown, SC, he attended Norwalk High School, Norwalk, CT and married Shirley Elizabeth Thompson. He died in Southampton, NY in 1986.
