Dr. Stan McGahey earned his doctorate in International Tourism from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea, in 1995. His M.S. and B.S. are in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration from Western Illinois University in the USA. He has traveled in over 100 countries on 6 continents, and has worked and consulted in many of them, including for the United Nations Development Program in China, the International Labor Organization in Indonesia, and the Research Triangle Institute International in Iraq. He has also authored several tourism books, written hundreds of travel trade articles, and created and co-hosted two radio programs on the tourism industry. His works have been published in the Wall Street Journal, the London Economist Intelligence Unit, and he has been part of the editorial staff or a regular contributor to several tourism trade publications. He has also been interviewed by CNN International. Dr. McGahey has taught tourism and hospitality since 1988 in nine countries, including in Macedonia, Uzbekistan, and Kosovo as a three-time Fulbright Professor and Researcher. He has been a member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Panel of Tourism Experts since 2004. He also has created two free websites on YouTube: Demystifying Tourism, which explains the various components of the tourism industry, and Thoughtful Traveling, which features a travel-related quote or thought for each day of the year and an explanation of its meaning and relevance to the travel experience.
