Dr. Carlos von Son is multidisciplinary professor. He teaches literature, culture, theatre and Spanish at The National Hispanic University in San Jose, California . He has taught also Humanities courses. Recently Professor von Son received the prestigious Palomar College Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching (Lecturer Recipient for 2007-2008). Carlos von Son received his Ph.D. from UC Irvine in Latin American literature with a sub-specialization in Chicano and US Latino Literature and Culture. His field of expertise is contemporary Mexican and Chicano cultures and literatures. Dr. von Son has written and staged various plays. In 2005 he formed Dionisio Productions and was the producer of the award winning independent film Ofrenda Desnuda (Bare Offering). Also he produced and edited a documentary based on the border crisis of 2006 called Border Piece. He has exhibited his photography at various local galleries, and collaborated with artist David Avalos on the exhibition “My Hidden Heart” in Escondido, CA.
