This edition originally published weekly in 36 numbers from April 1, 1797 to Saturday, December 16, 1797; bound in drab bluish-grey paper wrappers. Each number has title on cover: No I-XXXVI of Pilkington's Dictionary of painters elegantly printed in quarto, and hot-pressed.

The title page dated 1798 is found in no. 36 along with additional preliminary pages (xxiii p.).

"Reflections on the present state of the art of painting in England, by James Barry ...": p. [827]-840.
