L'anthropologie s'attache particulièrement aux structures "élémentaires" de la parenté, dans des sociétés où il est interdit d'épouser certains parents mais où d'autres sont les partenaires désignés. En Europe ont cours les structures "complexes" de la parenté : si certaines alliances sont interdites, il n'existe aucune obligation d'épouser une personne en particulier. Mais les différences entre ces deux types de structures ne sont pas si tranchées. A Haveluy, aux XVIII° et XIX° siècles, dans des milieux humbles existent des flux privilégiés...
