This is the autobiography of a Lewis-born man who travelled to Canada in 1859 in the service of the Hudson's Bay Company and his subsequent career and adventures as a labourer, fur trader and, later, land officer. The book gives a vivid idea of the condition of life in those regions in the latter half of the nineteenth century and is told in an exciting and adventurous spirit with some interesting reflections on the making of the new Dominion.
