A collection of over 250 poems in Latin, written by Baldric (or Baudry if you are French) the abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Bourgueil. Born 1046 he became a monk, then prior, then abbot of Bourgueil. In 1107 he was appointed Archbishop of Dol in Brittany, he died in 1130.
This is the first modern collection of Baldric's poetry, most of which was written before 1100, it is based on a single manuscript that came from the collection of Queen Christine of Sweden, and now resides in the Vatican Library.
This edition has since been superceded by Karlheinz Hilbert, Baldricus Burgulianus Carmina (Heidelberg, 1979), and later Baudri of Bourgueil, Carmina, two vols, ed. J.Y.. Tilliette (Paris: Belles-Lettres, 2002).
