Edition Notes

Added t.-p., engraved. Title varies.

Vol. 3, although ready for publication in 1679, first appeared in this, the 2d, edition. A fourth part to the work was written, but was destroyed by fire. The author refers to his "Exercitations musicaeæ", 1689, as containing the substance of a fifth part.

In the "prodromus" to vol. 1 of the present edition are included: (1) "Refutation des Satyrischen componisten ... vom ... Matz Tapinsmus ... und Charls Láusimpeltz written by Printz himself (cf. p. 23 et seq.) and first pub. separately in 1678; (2) a pretended reply by Printz, "Declaration oder weitere erklärung der Refutation ... von Philomuso Polyandre", 1679: (3) a colloquy by one of Printz's pupils, "Der aberwitzige pickelhering Jean Rebhu, in elnem kurtzen gespräch entworffen von Veridico Grato", being a satirical reply to an attack on Printz, which appeared in a contemporary almonac, containing also "Lebensbeschreibung des absenteuerlichen Jean Rebhu".
