Edition Notes
At head of title: Costantino Porfirogenito, Ibn Rosteh, Liutprando da Cremona.
The first book of Liber de ceremoniis consists of three sections: religious ceremonies (ch. 1-46), civil ceremonies (ch. 47-72) and profane ceremonies (ch. 73-92); the second book, consisting of 55 chapters, is mainly a supplement to Book 1. The translation (of the chapters chosen to represent Bk. 1 of the De ceremoniis) is based on the established text of Vogt in the Paris edition of Belles Lettres. Concerning ch. 15 of Bk. 2, the editor has preferred to follow the text of the editio princeps published at Leipzig. -- p. 35-36.
Also includes Bk. 6 of the Antapodosis of Liutprand of Cremona published in the edition of J. Becker (Die Werke Liudprands von Cremona, Hannover-Leipzig, 1915, pp. 152-158) as well as the 'Description of Constantinople', a part of an itinerary contained in the Kitāb al-aʻlāq al-nafīsah of the Arab geographer Aḥmad b. ʻUmar ibn Rosteh. -- p. 35-36.
With supplementary notes.
