National union catalog, pre-1956 (0208178) is taken from the title-page for plate descriptions, which is usually bound at the end of volume 1. The dates in the above entry are also given in the imprint. There is no evidence of engraved title-pages in any of the four volumes, although due to the publication history of the plates they often appear with an engraved title-page : Sammlung von merckwürdigkeiten der natur ... Nürnberg, [Gedruckt bey A. Bieling, 1755-73 ?] [etc.], cf. DLC G-1984 Revised.
Engraved portrait for Walch is signed "J. Elias Haid [Flaid?] sculp. Aug. Vind", and the portrait for Knorr preceeding the plate descriptions "I. E. Ihle Acad. pict. dir. pinx. I. A. Schweikart Acad. pict. Florent. Socius sc.".
After the death of Knorr, the work was continued by J. E. I. Walch.
