Con más de 100 mil visitantes al año, el Museo Parque de las Esculturas de Providencia, Chile, situado en el corazón de Santiago, la capital del país, fue inaugurado en diciembre de 1986. Concentra en 21.000 metros cuadrados 35 esculturas monumentales de los más destacados artistas chilenos, entre ellos los cinco que han obtenido el Premio Nacional de Arte: Marta Colvin, Samuel Roman, Sergio Castillo, Lily Garafulic y Federico Asler. El autor, que contó con aportes de la Licenciada en Artes, Carmen Retamal, sitúa al libro en el contexto histórico de su creación. Revela cómo este sitio público se convierte en hito de la escultura chilena al marcar la recuperación de esta actividad deprimida en el país durante los años 1980 por la crisis de sus vanguardias y no por la existencia de un gobierno militar como lo demuestran documentos de la época y lo reconocen honestamente en el libro los propios artistas. Un texto del internacionalmente destacado escultor Francisco Gazitúa, incluido en el libro, analiza los años de crisis y cómo la escultórica chilena se recupera cuando las obras ganan los espacios públicos. El pensamiento de 28 de los artistas presentes en el Museo Parque se complementa con sus biografías e imágenes de sus obras. Y un capítulo sitúa a la escultura como significante ideológico en la historia de la humanidad.
