Collection of 55 comedies and scenarios, some with accompanying music, performed in Paris by the Commedia dell-arte (Comédie-Italienne), 1681 until 1697, when the troupe was expelled from Paris; compiled by company actor Evaristo Gherardi.
The plays are by: A.M. de Fatouville, J.L. de Monchesnay, J.-F. Regnard, C.R. Dufresny, J. Palaprat, E. Le Noble, "Mr. L. A. D. S. M." (sometimes identified as La Selle), A.H. de La Motte, "Monsieur L. C. D. V.", "Monsieur L. A. P.", C.I. Brugière de Barante, E. Gherardi, Mongin, G. Boiffrand, and D. Biancolelli.
Named composers of airs: P. Lorenzini, "Mr. Masse" (Denis Macé?).
Each comedy has separate title or half-title page and engraved frontispiece; named engravers include F. Ertinger, E. Desrochers, Demarets, and B. Audran.
Each play has a list of "acteurs" without named casts.
Includes engraved plates (some folded) of some airs for 1-2 voices, unaccompanied or with continuuo (unrealized figured bass) accompaniment, and with French words, in vols. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6; otherwise words of airs printed throughout texts of plays.
