Edition Notes
Vol. [1], Disputationes duae ([30], 294 p.) has the same text as the edition published in Venice in 1588 [i. e. 1589] with an additional dedicatory epistle by the author, dated Feb. 1598. Vol. [2], Ad disputationem de scopis mittendi sanguinem additamentum apologeticum continens libros VII disputationes XI ([22], 453 (i. e. 459), [1] p., with special title page) includes an added section: "Epistolae duorum clarissimorum virorum de scopis mittendi sanguinem. Ad Alexandrum Massaria. Cum ejusdem Massaria responsionibus" (p. 427-453) These letters are dated Nov.-Dec. 1588.
The Additamentum is a justification of the author's position on bloodletting, as set forth in the former of the Disputationes, against the criticisms of unnamed "adversaries," particularly Orazio Augenio. Augenio replied to the Additamentum in v. 3 of his Epistolae medicinales, published in 1600.
T.p. device with motto "Vinci nescia virtus" ; headpieces ; initials ; printed marginalia.
Includes indices, v. [1], p. [18-32], and v. [2], p. [2-22]
Occasional Greek words in Latin text.
