The Holy Bible in Latin, including the O.T. Apocrypha, in the Vulgate version.

Title within architectural border.

Text printed in double column, solid paragraph form, without verse nos. Title centered at top of page. Chapter no. centered in column. Decorative headpieces. Woodcut initials over 6 lines at the beginning of books and bold-type initials over 2 lines at the beginning of chapters. References in both margins. 269 woodcuts to the Old Testament and 175 woodcuts to the New Testament. ABS copy: some MS notes and signature in ink on inside front cover.

A new edition of the 1562 Bible published by Rouillé, cf. British Museum gen. cat. of printed books, 3005. aaa. 7.

Includes: "Ordo librorvm"; "Index Testimoniorvm ... "; "Hieronymi Prologvs Galeatvs"; "Epistola B. Hieronymi ... "; "Praefatio Sancti Hieronymi ..." (first group of pages); Genesis-2 Maccabees; "Hieronymi in Evangelistas ... "; Matthew-Revelation (second group of pages); "Hebraicorvm, Chaldaeorvm, Graecorvmqve nominvm interpretatio"; "Index Rervm et Sententiarvm ... "; "Index Epistolarvm ... " (third group of pages).

Woodcuts considered the finest to appear in a Lyon Bible, were first used by Rouillé in 1562. Attributed to Pierre Eskrich or Jean Moni, while Baudrier attributed the somewhat smaller suite of 175 woodcuts illustrating the N.T. at least in part to the "Maître à la capeline", cf. Baudrier IX:291.
