The Munich artist Christoph Brech (*1964), who is represented in many international collections, primarily became known through his photographic and video works, installations and works in public spaces. For this current project, he produced 21 video, sound and spatial installations in the collection of medieval art at the Bavarian National Museum. He takes up iconographic subjects and visually converts or reinterprets them. The works produce interesting, unexpected formal and contextual relationships, which often only reveal themselves when looked at a second time. Spaces and objects are surprisingly staged, individual museum pieces decontextualized, emphasized through special lighting or changed positions, while others are brought to life through sound installations. The joint exhibition project of the Bavarian National Museum and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Christliche Kunst e. V. in Munich opens completely new vistas onto the Bavarian National Museum. At the same time, a cycle of photographs that Brech took at the Bavarian National Museum in 2015 and 2016 will be shown at the DG gallery. Moreover, two loans from the museum are central components of two installations that the artist has reconceived for the gallery space. Exhibition: Bayerisches Nationalmuseum and the Gallery of the DG Deutsche Gesellschaft für christliche Kunst e. V., Munich, Germany (12.05-10.07.2016).
