An overview of the musical, cultural and social aspects of the traditional Romansh folk song. Includes music for 40 songs from the 1500 collected by ethnographer Alfons Maissen in Graubünden at the request of the Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für Volkskunde beginning in the 1930's. The book supplements the digital archive of the Sammlung Maissen available on the web from the Swiss National Sound Archives, Lugano.

The accompanying CD contains 19 songs from the Maissen catalog.
