The publication "Schwarzenerde" by Niko Sturm is appearing on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name at M17 Contemporary Art Center in Kiev. He transposes the color and structure of the earth into images not only metaphorically, as the earth is quite literally hurled at the canvas and then fastened to it. Roman Grabner comments that "for him the country's earth forms the ground of the exhibition and the surface of the images." A painting is a storage medium that always bears within it the traces of time and the place where it arose. In his works Niko Sturm reflects on painting's basic material: pigment. The publication gives an overview of Sturm's works of recent years. It consists of two catalogs in a metal box. Exhibition: M17 Contemporary Art Center, Kiev, Ukraine.
