Geertje van de Kamp (1986) is gefascineerd door gevouwen papier: van muizentrappetjes tot origami. Toch komt er geen papier te pas aan haar intrigerende kunstwerken, die bestaan uit twee (gedeeltelijk) beschilderde glasplaten. De schildering klapt als het ware over van de voorste op de achterste plaat; het vouwwerk wordt daarbij door je ogen en hersenen verricht. Met behulp van schaduwen, licht en reflecties laat Geertje zien hoe betrekkelijk het verschil is tussen ruimtelijkheid en platheid, en tussen abstractie en figuratie. In 2019 reisde ze door Japan, het land waar schattige tekenfilmfiguurtjes hand in hand gaan met zakelijke hoogbouw. Dit boek - het elfde in de Inspiratie-reeks van de Van Vlissingen Art Foundation, die haar reis ondersteunde - gaat uitgebreid in op de reis en de indrukken die Geertje opdeed, maar ook op haar ontwikkeling daarvoor en daarna. Welke inspiratie putte ze uit haar confrontatie met een visuele prikkelexplosie én uit de rustgevende logica van origami? Exhibition: Singer Museum, Laren, The Netherlands (03.-29.11.2020).

Geertje van de Kamp (1986) is fascinated by folded paper: from mouse steps to origami. Yet no paper is used in her intriguing works of art, which consist of two (partially) painted glass plates. The painting flips over from the front to the back plate, as it were; the folding work is done by your eyes and brain. With the help of shadows, light and reflections, Geertje shows how relative the difference is between spatiality and flatness, and between abstraction and figuration. In 2019 she traveled through Japan, the country where cute cartoon characters go hand in hand with corporate high-rise buildings. This book - the eleventh in the Inspiration series of the Van Vlissingen Art Foundation, which supported her journey- elaborates on the journey and the impressions that Geertje gained, but also on her development before and afterwards. What inspiration did she draw from her confrontation with a visual stimulus explosion and from the calming logic of origami? Exhibition: Singer Museum, Laren, The Netherlands (03.-29.11.2020).
